Having had huge success in representing clients at mediations Sharon successfully became an accredited mediator in November 2015. She is passionate about mediation as a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution (to avoid the need for contested court proceedings) and enjoys the flexibility it offers and the results it often achieves.

In 2021/22 the Legal 500 said: At Thompson Smith and Puxon, the practice is led by chartered legal executive Sharon Auton, who has more than 20 years of litigation experience and is also a trained mediator. Laura-Pauline Adcock-Jones is another qualified mediator in the group, whose work includes property litigation, as well as disputes arising from breaches of contract, contentious probate, professional negligence and consumer law matters.

In 2019 the Legal 500 said: “Thompson Smith and Puxon is led by seasoned litigator Sharon Auton and focuses on private litigation matters including contract disputes, landlord and tenant disputes, construction claims, and contentious probate matters, the last of which is an especially strong generator of work. Judith Winward specialises in residential lease matters and commercial property disputes. Auton and Winward have recently been instructed on an international damages case which resulted in a favourable outcome for the client.”

In 2018 the Legal 500 said “The commercial litigation department at Thompson Smith and Puxon ‘consistently impresses with its significant breadth of skills, timely service and sound advice’, ‘making clients feel valued’. Its key focus areas include tenancy, property lease, and wills and probate disputes, with additional contract, partnership, insolvency, debt recovery, professional negligence and defamation expertise. The ‘pragmatic and supportive’ Judith Winward ‘takes a proactive approach to conflict resolution’ and became an associate in 2017. The ‘exceptional’ Sharon Auton heads the practice.”

Sharon says “I love my job and the variety it gives me. I have some wonderful clients. I particularly enjoy court work and the butterflies I still get from it and the open sessions at mediations. I like that the law is constantly changing and we have to keep on our toes to keep up with it.”

Sharon works closely with her colleagues in the Business Services and Wills and Estates Team to ensure that clients are provided with an holistic approach to their needs.
