Thompson Smith and Puxon recognised in Legal 500 UK 2026 rankings
Thompson Smith and Puxon (TSP) has once again been ranked as a leading independent law firm in the Legal 500 UK 2026.
The firm has been recommended in ten practice areas across its Colchester and Clacton offices, with recognition for both teams and individuals.
Individual recognition
Six Directors have been named as Leading Partners:

Team rankings
The firm has retained Tier 2 rankings in:
- Corporate and Commercial - praised for its work in manufacturing, agri-business, hospitality and healthcare, with particular expertise in acquisitions, reorganisations, and commercial agreements.
- Commercial Property - noted for its agricultural strength and support for retail and real estate finance clients, handling diversification, succession and strategic land projects.
- Employment - highlighted for practical HR and TUPE advice across construction, technology and retail.
- Agriculture and Estates - recognised for extensive experience in rural property sales, estate planning and succession, with expertise across trusts, farming partnerships and renewables.
- Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury - commended for combining technical expertise with a compassionate approach in high-value and complex claims.
- Wills and Estates (Tax, Trusts and Probate) - strong in inheritance tax planning, estate administration and agricultural matters, including lifetime trusts and Court of Protection work.
Improved rankings
Two teams have moved up to Tier 3:
- Family Law - led by “outstanding” solicitor Louise Margiotta, specialising in complex financial issues, family businesses and children matters.
- Commercial Litigation – praised for its tactical approach to disputes, loan recovery and property-related claims.
New recognition
For the first time, TSP’s Contentious Probate team, led by Katie Latham, has been ranked in Tier 4 for expertise in resolving complex probate disputes.
