Robert, who qualified as a solicitor in 2007, is supervised by Fiona Ashworth. He joined the TSP Wills and Estates team in May 2015. He advises clients on a broad range of private client matters and is based in our Colchester office. Robert was appointed as an Associate of Thompson Smith and Puxon in October 2017.

Robert, who grew up in a farming family, attended St Peter’s High School in Burnham on Crouch before going on to complete both his Law Degree and Legal Practice Course at Anglia Ruskin University. Since qualifying as a solicitor he has advised clients on their wills, lasting powers of attorney and estate administration. He also advises on elderly and vulnerable client matters and has a particular focus on succession planning advice for the firm’s large portfolio of farming and agricultural clients. In October 2017 he was elected to the Council of the Essex Agricultural Society.

Robert, who in his spare time is a keen cyclist and golfer, added “I enjoy the variety and sometimes challenging nature of the work that we see on a day to day basis.  It is particularly rewarding to assist these clients through what can be a difficult situation in order to reach a successful conclusion.”

Thompson Smith and Puxon has, for a number of years, been highlighted by the Legal 500 as a Leading Firm in this practice area and Robert is a Legal 500 Recommended Lawyer. In 2018/19 the Legal 500 said:

“The ‘thorough, efficient and reliable’ private client department at Thompson Smith and Puxon ‘exhibits a high degree of professional experience and capability’ with ‘a caring and considerate side’ and a willingness to ‘go the extra mile’ in order to ‘provide a comprehensive and timely service’. Focus areas include will preparation, probate, trusts, tax and succession planning, registering enduring powers of attorney, and Court of Protection matters, as well as asset preservation relating to long-term residential or nursing care requirements. A large proportion of clients have a business or agricultural background. ‘Sharp-minded, sympathetic and hardworking’ Fiona Ashworth, who ‘has a wealth of experience’, leads the practice from the Colchester office and is a main contact for elderly and farming clients. In October 2017, ‘friendly and persevering’ Robert Ashworth and ‘conscientious, sympathetic and efficient’ Aileen Hirst, who ‘has a practical grasp of problems and solutions’, joined Clacton-based Sarah White at associate level. Clients further recommend ‘exceptionally professional and caring’ solicitor Adina Milleare.”

In 2018/19 Robert was also noted as a Legal 500 Next Generation Lawyer.
