Litigation demand drives growth at Thompson Smith and Puxon
Thompson Smith and Puxon has strengthened its Dispute Resolution team with the double appointment of Director Bushra Elzubeir and NQ solicitor Anisa Khan. These hires mark a significant boost in the firm’s litigation services as it responds to sustained growth in the number of complex litigation matters arising from its commercial client base.
Based in TSP’s Colchester office, Bushra brings nearly 20 years of specialist experience to the role, having worked across London and the southeast in both in-house counsel and private practice roles. His expertise spans a wide range of disputes, including breaches of contract, fraud and asset recovery, cross-border litigation, regulatory matters, professional negligence, and construction disputes. Bushra also advises regulated professionals - such as doctors, accountants and solicitors - on disciplinary and compliance issues. This breadth of experience makes him ideally placed to support both corporate clients and individuals with varied and challenging disputes.
In addition to his strong technical credentials, Bushra brings valuable cultural and linguistic skills to the firm. Having grown up in the Middle East, he is a fluent Arabic speaker and has a nuanced understanding of international business practices, enhancing the firm’s capacity to advise clients with interests or counterparties overseas. With experience supporting sports professionals, Bushra’s appointment adds new dimensions to the team’s expertise.
Bushra joins a well-established team led by Director Andrew Breckenridge, supported by Senior Associates Katie Latham and Laura-Pauline Adcock-Jones, and more recently, Solicitor Anisa Khan.
Anisa was admitted as a Solicitor on 1 February this year, having first joined TSP in 2021 as a Court of Protection Paralegal in its Wills & Estates Team before embarking on her Training Contract in February 2023. Anisa was awarded LawNet Trainee of the Year 2023/24 in November 2023, an honour for which winners are chosen on the basis of their dedication and commitment to their profession.
Collectively, the team draws on over 50 years of litigation experience to assist businesses and individuals with their commercial and civil disputes. With litigation work on the rise, TSP’s growing team is well positioned to meet the evolving needs of businesses operating in a changeable commercial environment.
Sean Stuttaford, Chief Executive Officer at TSP, said: “Appointing Bushra and Anisa supports our focus on developing a versatile and experienced team. Bushra’s appointment in particular reflects TSP’s commitment to growing in a way that benefits our clients. With demand for our litigation expertise increasing, Bushra brings specialist knowledge and commercial insight that will allow us to support our clients’ evolving needs. Anisa has demonstrated exceptional dedication, professionalism and commitment to the firm’s values that make her an asset to the team.”
Director and Head of Dispute Resolution team, Andrew Breckenridge, said: “Thompson Smith and Puxon is pleased to welcome both Bushra and Anisa to the team. Over recent years we have experienced an increase in the number of instructions received and this strategic appointment will enable us to meet the significant uplift in complex litigation matters and strengthen our offering. This appointment is a clear reflection of our focus on growth and our determination to accommodate the need for our specialist knowledge and commercial insight.”
Of his appointment, Bushra said: “I am excited to start my next chapter at Thompson Smith and Puxon. I was drawn to the team’s reputation - its technical expertise and the wide range of its clients alongside the quality of the service the firm provides as a whole, sets it apart in the region. I look forward to facing new challenges and supporting the team in reaching its next level.”
As the business landscape becomes more challenging, companies are increasingly seeking expert support to navigate disputes quickly, efficiently and strategically. By investing in high-calibre talent, TSP continues to anticipate and adapt to the evolving needs of its client base, ensuring they have access to top-tier advice when it matters most.
