Robert Ashworth awarded ‘Compassionate Community Champion’

Thompson Smith and Puxon (TSP) is proud to announce that Director, Robert Ashworth, who also leads the firm’s Wills and Estates team, has been recognised as a Compassionate Community Champion. He received his award from the Mayor of Colchester on 11 September 2025.

Colchester continues to celebrate the kindness and compassion that already exists in abundance in the city by recognising its Compassionate Community Champions – the people, projects and places that are helping improve the lives of others through kindness and compassion.

Robert was nominated for the award by Simon Pinion, fellow Colchester Business Lunch Club (CBLC) member. Robert has been President of the CBLC for 7 years. The purpose of the CBLC is to connect likeminded professionals from within the Colchester business community. However, the club successfully combines this mission with raising money each year for local charities and has itself already been recognised as a Compassionate Community Champion earlier this year. You can read about this award and the CBLC here.

Whilst Robert supports the CBLC in his own time, he has the full support and assistance of Thompson Smith and Puxon in his role as President of the club and also with the day to day needs that come with running such a club. Indeed, TSP was awarded ‘Compassionate Champion’ status in 2024 in recognition of its dedication to providing a supportive workplace for staff and delivering legal services to the community with empathy and understanding.

At work, Robert advises clients on their Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, including elderly and vulnerable client matters, and on estate administrations. Robert uses his commercial and technical skills, combined with his ability to understand and connect with his clients, to make a real difference, both inside and outside of TSP

Growing up on a farm himself, Robert also has a strong connection with TSP’s substantial agricultural client base. Robert understands the unique challenges faced by farmers and their families and engages naturally, as a respected and trusted advisor, on the subject of farming family planning and succession.

Sean Stuttaford, Chief Executive Officer at TSP commented: “This is a great achievement for both Robert, who leads our successful private client team and Thompson Smith and Puxon. The firm’s impact in the local community continues to be integral to the way in which we operate, further supported by the recent launch of the Thompson Smith and Puxon Foundation.

Robert Ashworth commented: “I am truly honoured to have received this recognition. I take pride in my duties as a Solicitor, team leader and Director at TSP and always strive to uphold the firm’s strong community values at work and at home. Being President of the CBLC in my spare time has led to some wonderful opportunities to make a real difference in the local community. Thank you to my fellow CBLC committee members for nominating me for this award.”
