Nicola Rout, who qualified as a Solicitor in 2002, joined the TSP Corporate and Commercial team in November 2019. She advises clients on a broad range of Corporate and Commercial matters but specialises in insolvency and restructuring. She is based in our Colchester office.

Nicola obtained her law degree from Oxford University in 1998 before gaining her Diploma in Legal Practice from Nottingham Law School in 1999. She then joined Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer to undertake her training contract qualifying into the Restructuring and Insolvency team. Nicola has a wealth of experience acting for companies, investment banks and hedge funds, including acting on debt for equity swaps, debt restructurings and pre-pack administrations.

Her experience highlights include acting for stakeholders in the Lehman Brothers collapse in 2008 during her time as senior associate at Latham & Watkins and then more recently, advising a FTSE 100 company and a global professional body on GDPR compliance issues.

Nicola says “I am looking forward to bringing my insolvency and restructuring experience to TSP, and offering innovative solutions-based support for companies concerned with insolvency and liquidity issues, whether their own or those related to their customers or suppliers. I enjoy helping companies overcome the obstacles they face by providing them with practical and timely advice and I am excited to offer that alongside the wide range of Corporate and Commercial services that the team already offers.”

In her spare time Nicola is a member of several choirs in Ipswich and enjoys cooking and spending time with her husband and three daughters.

Thompson Smith and Puxon has, for a number of years, been highlighted by the Legal 500 as a Leading Firm in the Corporate and Commercial practice area. In the UK 2022/23 edition the team is described as follows: Based in its Colchester office, the team at Thompson Smith and Puxon has developed a niche in complex reorganisation work, which practice leader Mary Anne Fedeyko has been involved in for over 20 years. Assisting domestic and international clients, the group is also well-regarded in the healthcare sector, where it handles the purchase and sale of dental practices, leveraging Nick Mayles‘ specialty working with dental practices and Claire Powell‘s experience advising GP practices.

Dementia FriendsNicola is a Dementia Friend, an Alzheimer’s Society scheme which aims to raise awareness of what it’s like to live with dementia and how people living with it can be helped. Find out more about the scheme and how TSP is involved here.
