Clare Sheeran, who was admitted as a solicitor in 2001, joined TSP in 1999 as a trainee solicitor. Clare advises TSP’s clients on both Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence claims. She is based in the Colchester office. She was appointed as an Associate of Thompson Smith and Puxon in September 2015.

Clare, who is local to the Colchester area, went to St Benedict’s School in Colchester. She completed her degree in Business and Law at the Southampton Solent University and from there joined TSP as an office junior. Clare spent a further 6 months in the TSP debt recovery team before going on to study for her Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Anglia Ruskin University.  At this point she returned to TSP as a paralegal in the Personal Injury (PI) department and completed her formal training to become a Solicitor taking seats in the PI, Family and Criminal departments. Since her qualification Clare has built a wealth of knowledge dealing with Personal Injury claims including, accidents at work, criminal injuries, road traffic accidents, trips, slips, and accidents in public areas. More recently, she has expanded her Litigation work to include Clinical Negligence cases. She is particularly interested in Clinical Negligence matters affecting female cancer patients and injuries at birth.

Clare is an accredited Member of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel and also a Member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). When Clare isn’t spending time with her 3 young children she enjoys keeping fit, especially running, and is a School Governor at the local Gosbecks Primary School in Colchester.

Thompson Smith and Puxon is recommended for both its Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury work and Clare is recommended for her work in both practice areas. In 2017 she was singled out as a Next Generation lawyer for her Clinical Negligence work.

In 2017 the Legal 500 said the following about the firm’s Clinical Negligence work: “Thompson Smith and Puxon’s clinical negligence team is recommended for its ‘commitment, personal service and relationships with clients’, with the individual lawyers providing conditional fee arrangements and being ‘insightful, prompt, responsive, clear and highly organised’. Cases handled span neonatal, psychiatric and orthopaedic claims involving both children and adults. Also recommended is the ‘professional, polite and knowledgeable’ associate solicitor Clare Sheeran, who has a particular specialisation in matters involving female cancer patients and birth injuries.

They also said the following about the firm’s Personal Injury practice “Thompson Smith and Puxon’s personal injury team in Colchester handles occupational and road traffic accidents as well as defective product, repetitive strain injury, psychiatric shock, and slipping and tripping claims. Practice lead Steve Webb also brings expertise in brain injury matters, while associate solicitor Clare Sheeran handles criminal and public liability claims and solicitor Sam Welham specialises in cases relating to occupational stress.”

Clare says “I really enjoyed my time as a trainee at TSP when I not only gained experience of Litigation work but also in the Family and Criminal departments. The varied work types made it very interesting. However, it was Litigation work, and, at the time, Personal Injury work, in particular, that I enjoyed the most.”
