Clare Sheeran, who was admitted as a solicitor in 2001, joined TSP in 1999 as a trainee solicitor. Clare advises TSP’s clients on both Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence claims. She is based in the Colchester office. She was appointed as an Associate of Thompson Smith and Puxon in September 2015.

Clare, who is local to the Colchester area, went to St Benedict’s School in Colchester. She completed her degree in Business and Law at the Southampton Solent University and from there joined TSP as an office junior. Clare spent a further 6 months in the TSP debt recovery team before going on to study for her Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Anglia Ruskin University.  At this point she returned to TSP as a paralegal in the Personal Injury (PI) department and completed her formal training to become a Solicitor taking seats in the PI, Family and Criminal departments. Since her qualification Clare has built a wealth of knowledge dealing with Personal Injury claims including, accidents at work, criminal injuries, road traffic accidents, trips, slips, and accidents in public areas. More recently, she has expanded her Litigation work to include Clinical Negligence cases. She is particularly interested in Clinical Negligence matters affecting female cancer patients and injuries at birth.

Clare is an accredited Member of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel and also a Member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). When Clare isn’t spending time with her 3 young children she enjoys keeping fit, especially running, and is a School Governor at the local Gosbecks Primary School in Colchester.

Thompson Smith and Puxon is recommended for both its Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury work and Clare is recommended for her work in both practice areas. In 2018/19 she was once again singled out as a Next Generation lawyer for her Clinical Negligence work.

In 2018/19 the Legal 500 said the following about the firm’s Clinical Negligence work: “The clinical negligence department of Thompson Smith and Puxon impresses with its ‘strong teamwork, prompt response times and appropriate advice’, as well as by ‘keeping clients fully informed throughout the process’. It represents claimants in A&E, birth injury and cerebral palsy, paediatric, psychiatric, fatal and orthopaedic matters. A recent highlight was the £1.4m settlement of a claim against an NHS Trust concerning the negligent drainage of a cyst via a shunt, which led to the claimant suffering a cardiac arrest and catastrophic brain damage. Birth injury specialist Julian Wilson, brain injury partner and department lead Steve Webb, whose ‘strength is listening to clients and giving them time to understand’, associate Clare Sheeran and ‘excellent and professional’ solicitor Sam Welham are the key contacts.”

They also said the following about the firm’s Personal Injury practice “Thompson Smith and Puxon is ‘a top firm for personal injury claims in this geographical area and beyond’; its ‘competent and pleasant’ personal injury team provides ‘excellent service’. The lawyers cover claims involving road traffic accidents, employment liability, trips and slips, defective products and accidents on private premises. Special expertise exists in work environment diseases, repetitive strain injuries and psychiatric shock matters. Clients recommend ‘experienced and sensible’ partner Steve Webb, associate solicitor Clare Sheeran and solicitor Sam Welham, all of whom are considered ‘hardworking’.”

Clare says “I really enjoyed my time as a trainee at TSP when I not only gained experience of Litigation work but also in the Family and Criminal departments. The varied work types made it very interesting. However, it was Litigation work, and, at the time, Personal Injury work, in particular, that I enjoyed the most.”
