Errors may occur when a patient being transported to hospital sustains an injury getting into or out of the ambulance, or perhaps sustains a different injury to the one they are being transported for, in some cases a serious one, because they or the wheelchair they are being transported in is not adequately strapped down.

We acted recently for an older lady, resident in a care home, who had been transported to hospital via ambulance for a routine appointment. On the return journey, whilst wheeling the lady from the ambulance to the care home, the lady was tipped out of her wheelchair as she had not been adequately strapped in. It was a cold and snowy day and she sustained reasonably severe injuries because of the fall from her wheelchair.
