16 February 2006: A young designer and entrepreneur from Colchester has made her debut at London Fashion Week, supported by leading Essex law firm Thompson Smith & Puxon.
Hannah Marshall, 24, was chosen as one of Britain’s top emerging talents to showcase her latest collection at the prestigious On/Off event, held at the Royal Academy of Arts as part of London Fashion Week. The selection panel for the event included designer Betty Jackson and TV fashion guru Caryn Franklin.
Hannah’s family are long standing clients of Thompson Smith & Puxon and the law firm, which has offices in Colchester and Clacton, were keen to offer financial support to the former Colchester School of Art & Design student.
Speaking at the On/Off event Hannah said: “To showcase my collection at London Fashion Week has been an amazing opportunity and it’s fantastic to receive the backing of such a modern and well respected firm from my home town of Colchester.”
The young designer’s ‘Quiet Noise’ collection received interest from across the world and one of her creations was worn by a representative of London Fashion Week to The Brits Awards. The collection of 12 sophisticated dresses is made with luxurious British fabrics and many include Hannah’s signature design of Braille coded messages.
Mary Anne Fedeyko, senior solicitor at Thompson Smith & Puxon, who visited Hannah during London Fashion Week, said: “Hannah is a bright talent and represents everything we should be encouraging in young people. She has made a big impression on the fashion world already and we are delighted to support her as she progresses on her exciting journey.”
On/Off is a major programme which aims to nurture the best emerging and established British fashion talent. Hannah was one of a handful of designers chosen to present at the 2007 event which was attended by more than 6,000 international press and buyers.
Hannah graduated from ColchesterSchool of Art & Design in 2003 with a first class degree, before gaining experience with leading designers in London and New York. She has gone on to become a designer and entrepreneur in her own right and has received international media recognition including coverage on Channel 4, BBC, Sky and in Japanese Elle.
