September 2006 - A local youth football team has kicked off the new season in style thanks to brand new kit sponsored by leading Essex law firm Thompson Smith & Puxon.

The West Mersea Oyster Youths proudly displayed the new blue and white strip for their first match against the Clacton Reds - and it proved to be a lucky mascot for the under 12s side which stormed home to a 6-3 victory!

Thompson Smith and Puxon’s donation has enabled the team to play in new kit for the first time and club manager Mike Sheeran says the strip has given the side a tremendous boost:

“The lads and everyone at the Club are extremely grateful to Thompson Smith & Puxon for sponsoring the new team kit. We hope the result of our first game will be the sign of things to come for the rest of the season!”

The Oyster Youths compete in the Colchester and District Youth League and home matches are played at The Glebe in West Mersea.

Mark Cooksley, senior solicitor at Thompson Smith & Puxon, said: “It is important that local youngsters are encouraged to participate in sport at all levels and we hope that by supporting the Oyster Youths we are working towards this aim.”
