28 August 2007: Up to 80 golfers swung into action at Clacton on Sea Golf Club on Friday 24th August to take part in the Captain’s Charity competition, held in aid of St Helena Hospice and sponsored by Colchester and Clacton solicitors Thompson Smith & Puxon.
The charity event was part of the Club’s annual Festival Weekend and all proceeds from the 18-hole contest will be donated to the Colchester hospice which provides specialist care for people with life threatening illnesses living in North Essex.
Thompson Smith & Puxon, which has offices in both Clacton and Colchester, made a generous donation to support the day which will go directly to St Helena Hospice. The firm also entered a team of four in the competition, which included conveyancing expert and golf enthusiast Robin Baldwin and recently retired partner and Golf Club member Robert Gillespie.
Last year, Thompson Smith & Puxons Commercial solicitors team acted for members of Clacton Golf Club, helping them to buy the club when the land was put up for sale by Tendring District Council. The members are now running the club as a business under Club Chairman Mike Davies.
Club Captain Steve Scott said: “We are very grateful to Thompson Smith & Puxon Solicitors for its support for the Charity Day which is always a popular event in our Club calendar. We are also appreciative of their expertise during our recent purchase of the course. We had a great turnout and the proceeds will provide a substantial boost for St Helena Hospice.”
Thompson Smith & Puxon Solicitors Colchester and Clacton branches will provide further support for the Club next year by offering a financial boost to one promising young golfer who would not otherwise be able to fund their progression in the sport
